Well, here we are in the middle of our very short cool season in Thailand. You might not know about the seasons here, but we have just three: Hot, Hotter and Hottest. Just kidding – kind of!

There is hot season, which generally runs from March to June. The temperatures average around 34 Celsius (93 Fahrenheit). Then rain season, July to October, at around 29 Celsius (84 Fahrenheit). And lastly, and my favorite, cool season. It seems like a quick couple of months from about November to February, temps vary from 27 down to 16 Celsius (60 Fahrenheit), but for the most part the days are still warm, and can often still get pretty hot.

So, for now we can enjoy wearing a jacket for a couple of weeks as that’s about how long the really cool weather actually lasts. It’s been getting into the 50s the past week, but this rarely lasts long. It’s chilly though for us that are acclimated to a tropical climate. I absolutely love this time of the year!

Jackie and I have got out our winter wear and have managed to devote quite a lot of time outside this year. We’ve been spending long hours out in the yard, and I have been working on gardening projects while the weather is so pleasant.

The grass wasn’t doing too well as it had really gone to seed, so I decided to take it out and go with a rock garden instead. Not only is much more sustainable, it saves me from watering during the hot season, and will be low maintenance in general.

Jackie being interrupted from her nap, she did not appreciate the intrusion

Jackie Chan seems to approve as she has new stuff to dig. Yes, she’s a digger, and had started in on what was left of the grass, making the decision much easier to have it removed. At least it can be swept aside, where the lawn looked like it had moles!

Nature is a healer. I say this often as I believe it to be true. In 2021, I hope to spend more time in it, and appreciate all the gifts it has to offer. Be thankful if you live in a country with cooler weather, for some of us the time is fleeting and precious. Get out and breathe it in, you owe it to yourself. And don’t forget to get your doggo out for a trot in the fresh air, they need it too!
