Can you spare just a few dollars for a very worthy cause? The goal has almost been met for a shelter and safe space for the 80 dogs under Khun Khom’s care.
Only 5,000 baht (£124/$160 U.S.) is needed to begin the project! Donate here: https://www.paypal.me/Trixie2015
Nontaphat Khammamool, or Khun Khom, is doing absolutely phenomenal work in helping the street dogs of Doi Saket, north of Chiang Mai. He has dedicated his whole life to helping hundreds of homeless dogs and puppies in his area over many years. He’s fed them, nursed them back to health and given them love and protection. And now he needs our help to build a better life for the 80 rescued dogs currently at his home and in his care. The remaining funds are urgently needed to enable these dogs to have a safe and free environment. With your help they will have a place to run, a rehabilitation area where the sick and injured can recover, and have proper dog houses, where they can sleep in comfort.
In addition to the dogs at his home, Khun Khom travels to the Wang Mai Dam to feed and medicate the dogs there – every single day. Whether in a monsoon or 40 degree heat, he never lets these dogs down.
A day in the life of Khom Khom
- Gets up at 5 am to clean and feed the dogs’ area, which takes a couple of hours
- Cooks the rice mix to be ready for the evening feeding at the dam, it takes around 4 hours to prepare all the food for approximately 60-70 dogs
- Medicates and checks on all the dogs, paying close attention to the sick and injured
- Starts work at his noodle stand at the market in his village, people often drop off rice and dog biscuits for the dogs
- Finishes at around 1pm, does a few personal chores and then goes home to see to his fathers’ needs, on top of everything, he cares for his elderly father
- Puts cooked rice into barrels, 9 in total, and loads up his bike and side car
- Does another doggie round of medication and checks on the sick and injured, and dishes out their evening meal, and cleans up again
- Rides out to feed his beloved strays at the dam, which takes anywhere between 2 and 3 hours
Khun Khom is an incredibly humble and devoted dog lover. The compassion he shows to each and every dog is simply inspirational. We can all learn from this wonderful gentleman’s example.
Every single day of the year, no matter what, this is Khom’s day. He does this single – handedly, with no help.
He relies on small donations and the kindness of shop keepers that give him rice and biscuits as merit.
Can you help us reach our goal to begin building this shelter? At the start of funding the project, we needed 30,000 Baht = £740 .00/$980.00, we are almost there! With your help now, the work can begin.
This shelter will greatly enhance these dogs’ lives, and help Khun Khom continue to do his charitable and very honorable work.
