Please help to reach the goal to save B, one of Lanna Care for Animals’ most favorite residents. The costs are increasing and your help will make a big impact on this sweets girl’s outcome. Consider making a donation, U.S.D goes a very long way here in Thailand. Skip a couple coffees and put those extra dollars towards a very worthy cause, saving a life!
Lanna Care for Animals is a non-profit organization run solely on donations, for cases just like this. They receive no government assistance and rely on private donors to continue their vital work in the street dog community of Chiang Mai.
This is what they have to say regarding B‘s condition:
“B is one of our much-loved shelter dogs. She has been struggling since May of this year, 2021, with a rare medical condition. Something is continuing to destroy the red blood cells in her bloodstream. She has now had 5 blood transfusions.
The problem is possibly a combination of things, such as a severe blood parasite infection that might be inducing the bone marrow suppression, or may be related to the immune problem her body has begun on its own.
Our veterinarian’s opinion is that B may have IMHA ( Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia). This disease can happen from many causes, such as a tumor somewhere in the body, blood parasite infection, congenital problem, chronic inflammation in the body, etc.
B has now been started on new oral medication from July 6, that will suppress the immune system, and is faster and better to use in combination with steroid medicine. During this time, B will likely need further blood transfusions to buy time in waiting for the effect of the medicines, which usually take 3-4 weeks. The IMHA can be cured if it is caused from the blood parasite problem, but not if it is caused from a congenital problem, or mass/tumor/other immune problem. In this case, B may need this oral medication for her entire lifetime.
B is a three-year-old husky mixed breed. She has been with us at Lanna care for Animals Foundation(LCA), in Chiang Mai, Thailand, since she was a puppy. We rescued 3 siblings, named Si, B and Ria(Siberia).Si and B are still with us, but Ria was adopted. B has always been completely healthy and happy with no symptoms, so this was a shock to us when she suddenly became weak and suffered a seizure. She is the sweetest, most placid-natured dog. It is sad for us to see her now enduring this serious health issue.
We cannot keep up with B’s continuous medical costs. We need your help! We get NO government funding assistance, and with over 300 dogs in our care to provide for daily, LCA’s funds are limited. Separate fundraising for donations is always necessary to fund special medical cases like this one for B.
The costs are high! With each blood transfusion, laboratory cross-matching from different donor dogs is necessary until a match is found, plus hospital boarding fees, medicines, treatment fees, transport, and more! This amounts to almost $300 USD per week! We have had support from many of our followers already, THANK YOU! We are not at the finish line yet though!
We rely solely on your donations to continue B’s much needed medical treatment.
Please help us save our sweet B! Help her continue getting the medical care she needs. All contributions are truly appreciated, no matter how big or small. It all helps!
100% of the donations go directly to the cost of B’s medical treatment and care.
Our fundraising goal amount includes predicted future blood transfusions and treatment costs. Any remaining funds after treatment is complete, will go towards the medical costs of our other LCA dogs.”
